Future Legends
The phrase
"Future Legends"
might appear at first to be so much hype until you consider the
history of the Houston amateur boxing scene, and the legends
already produced thus far. Few of us old enough to have seen it
will forget George Foreman's waving of an American flag after
winning the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City. Since then
Houston-area gyms have continued to produce some of the world's
finest fighters: "Termite" Watkins, Raul Marquez,
Reggie Johnson, and Eric Griffin all fought in the Houston
Golden Gloves. Active Houston-area pros who came up through the
local amateur system include former N.A.B.F. Cruiserweight Champion Felix Cora, Jr.,
former W.B.A. Lightweight Champion Juan Diaz
and former W.B.C. Continental Americas Featherweight Champ Rocky Juarez. There are currently at
least 700 amateur boxers registered in Houston and the surrounding area,
training in 50 boxing clubs. On any given day you can walk into
one of these gyms and see greatness in development. On this page
we chronicle the hard work and the achievement of those
young men and women who strive to fulfill their destinies, and
give you a glimpse at the making of
Future Legends!!

Marlen Esparza Wins 5th consecutive National Amateur
Title!
Houston's own Marlen Esparza returned home on -7-18-2012 from Colorado Springs,CO with her 5th consective U.S National Championship but this time around she moved up in weight from 106lb to the new olympic weight class 112lb showing that shes ready to represent Team USA in the 2012 Olympics at 112lbs.Marlen's road to her 5th national championship was no easy task competing and beating three national champions on her way including Tyireshia Douglas, Baltimore, MD in the finals by a score of 15-7 and doing all this while still walking around near her former weight class 106lbs and being clearly one of the smallest in the tournament at 112lbs.Marlen will now come home to Houston,Tx and take a few days off before geting back in the gym to prepare to get ready to travel to Bridgetown, Barbados with team USA on September 06,2012 for the Womens World Championship.
Houston's Errol
