landed more shots against Andrew Greeley on July 9th, 2010,

Humble Civic Center!
Mendez
Mangles Taylor!
Super Bantamweight Johanna "Bam Bam" Mendez of Houston
(8-0-1, 2 KO's) faced Geni Taylor of New Orleans in
a scheduled four-round bout.

Mendez was coming off a close six-round majority
decision win over Christina Ruiz of San Antonio on
June 17th.
Taylor came into the match undefeated at 2-0, with 1
KO, most recently taking a unanimous four-round
decision over Jasmine Patton in Bay St. Louis
Mississippi in January.
Mendez was one of the nation's top amateur female boxers and has continued to stand out as a pro, notching wins over then 11-2 Kasha Chamblin and 5-2 Lisa Lamb in 2009.
In
this bout a right hand from Mendez would leave
Taylor with a nasty cut early in the second round,
and the doctor would stop the contest at :31 of
round two, giving Mendez the decision!
"Pelon"
Pounds Lockette!
Super
Lightweight Eleazar "Pelon" Renteria of Houston
took on Jerron Lockette of San Antonio, in a
bout scheduled for six rounds.

Renteria came in with a record of 8-1-1 with 5 KO's, and was coming off the lone loss of his career, a 6th round TKO at the hands of Angel Rodriguez in Houston in September of '09.
Lockette came
into this bout with a record of 4-16-2, most
recently losing a unanimous six-round
decision to Oscar Gonzales in Kingsville,
Texas in May.
But Lockette did take a
four-round split decision win over then 5-3
Edgar Estrada in Hidalgo, Texas in March.
Renteria and
Lockette traded sharp shots throughout the
match, with Renteria's left hook to the head
and body combinations taking a toll.

became especially aggressive in round five,
advancing forward and landing two solid
shots to Renteria's head near the end of the
round.

Two judges
gave Renteria every round, scoring the match
60-54, while the third saw it 59-55 Renteria,
giving him the unanimous decision!

Rips Robertson!
Heavyweight
Darlington "Cheek" Agha of
Sugarland, Texas
(4-0, 4 KO's) hammered journeyman
Douglas "Preacher Man" Robertson of
Longview, Texas (3-24-2).

To his credit,
Robertson survived the pummeling of the second round
to go into round three, but after Robertson took
several unanswered shots against the ropes, the
referee stopped the fight at :36 of the third round!
Cochran Crushes Williams!
. Longtime amateur featherweight Jerren Cochran of Houston
looked spectacular in his pro debut against
Stephen Williams of Tyler, Texas, who was
also making his pro debut!

"Mean Gene" Mauls Greeley!
Mean Eugene Hill of Dickinson, Texas took on Andrew Greeley of Monroe, Louisiana in a
scheduled six-round rematch of their March 18th bout in Texas City, in which Hill captured the vacant Texas Heavyweight Title with a unanimous eight-round decision.
Hill sported a record of 21-1 with 16 KO's and weighed in at
261 lbs. Greeley brought a record of 14-32-3 came in
at 248 lbs., and while he had lost 18 of his last 20 fights, he has demonstrated
he is rugged enough to survive and go the distance against difficult competition, fighters with extremely high win percentages.

The fighters
continued to trade combinations throughout the bout.
Hill was generally the aggressor, often keeping
Greeley pressed against the ropes.
Greeley had lost an eight-round split decision to Owen Beck in Michigan in June of '09, a ten-round unanimous decision to Manuel Quezada in Lemoore, California in August of '08, and a unanimous ten-round decision to Hector Ferreyo in Laredo in August of '07. Greeley had even notched a fourth-round TKO win over
then 20-1 Joey Abell in Minnesota in April of '08.

somewhat more aggressive in round five, but Hill
retained overall control the match.

bout 60-54 for Hill, while the other two saw it
59-55 for "Mean Gene", giving him the unanimous
decision!

one, a quick combination in round two ended
the bout, which the referee stopped at :32

Bernal Batters London!
Junior Lightweight Joshua
"Little Hardy" London of Houston
(1-1, 1 KO) faced John Bernal of San
Antonio (1-0).
Bernal hit London with a low blow in
the first round, and despite saying he was okay to
continue, London never really recovered.
He barely survived the round.

Ronnie Ralston stopped
the contest at :34 of the second
round.
Brown Beats Cheatham
Light Heavyweight
Raymond "Lucky" Brown of Houston made his pro debut against
Jason Cheatham of Tyler, Texas, who was also making
his pro debut.

The fighters were
evenly matched and remained extremely cautious
throughout the match, with neither seeming to want
to make the commitment to victory.
Cheatham's southpaw
stance may have contributed to the hesitance on the
part of Brown.
Cheatham caught Brown
with a nice uppercut to the head in round three,
while Brown retaliated with a left hook to the jaw.

bout even at 38-38, while another saw it 40-36 for
Brown, and the third saw it 39-37 for Brown, giving
him the majority decision!
