Mendez
Manages Ruiz!

against Christina Ruiz of San Antonio (5-3, 3 KO's)
in a six-round bout.

Mendez was one of the nation's top amateur female boxers and has continued to stand out as a pro, notching wins over then 11-2 Kasha Chamblin and 5-2 Lisa Lamb in 2009.
Mendez most recently TKO'd Geboria Mayfield in July of '09 in Houston. Ruiz had won her last three fights, also most recently stopping Mayfield in Fort Worth in April of this year.

round three.
..
The
bout was fought at 122 lbs., heavier than Mendez's
natural weight, due to the difficulty of her finding
opponents, according to her father JT Mendez.
Ruiz was clearly the larger and stronger fighter,
stalking Mendez throughout much of the match. But
Mendez showed outstanding lateral movement, as well
as the ability to score combinations while darting
in and out of her opponent's range.

Two
judges scored the bout 59-55 for Mendez, while the
third called it a draw. HoustonBoxingScene.com also saw

"El Tigre" Devours "Mr. Hollywood"
Alfonso "El Tigre" Lopez of Cut 'n Shoot, Texas
dominated Rubin "Mr. Hollywood" Williams of Detroit
over ten rounds to top off a Rock Solid Promotions card that had a little
bit of everything for Houston-area fight fans.
Lopez came in undefeated at 19-0 with 15 KO's, and he was coming off a unanimous six-round decision over the 25-7 Gabriel Holguin in Corpus Christi on April 3rd.
"El Tigre" continued to increase his level of competition in
taking on the 29-9-1 Williams, who had notched 16
KO's, but the 34-year-old Williams has clearly seen better days,
having lost his last seven fights in a row prior to
facing Lopez.
See round two!
..
Williams was most recently stopped on cuts in four rounds by Les Sherrington in Australia on April 29th, in challenging for the World Boxing Foundation Super Middleweight title.
Williams also has knockout losses to Andre Ward and Houston's Chris Henry in 2008.
But while he proved durable and dangerous to the
end, Williams never seemed to offer a serious effort
to win the bout against Lopez, opting for survival
mode instead.

..
Lopez continued
to keep Williams against the ropes and score with
repeated combinations to the body and head.
Williams
countered with the occasional combination but never
threatened Lopez, who won every round on all three
judges' scorecards.
See round seven.
..
Despite the pounding,
Williams never went down in the match, and showed in
round ten that he remained a dangerous opponent to
the end.

Castaneda
Nails Nash!
Light
middleweight Fernando Castaneda of
Aguascalientes, Mexico (7-5, 4 KO's)
punished Deon Nash of Lutcher, Louisiana (5-13, 1 KO) in a scheduled six-round bout.
See round one below!
..
Castaneda was coming off a four-round split decision loss to Taronze Washington in Fort Worth on May 8th, while Nash had lost his last eleven consecutive bouts.
But to Nash's credit, he had gone the distance in ten of those eleven bouts, and had most recently gone six-rounds in losing to former world contender J.C. Candelo in Texas City in March.
But
Castaneda's sustained body attack took a
serious toll on Nash, who continued to break
down and absorb more and more bombs as the
bout wore on.
The time of
the stoppage was 2:14 of the fifth round!
Agha

quickly dispatched "Gentleman" James
Johnson of Dallas (23-41-3, 13 KO's) in the first round!
