weathered a furious first round assault to
dispatch Matt Hicks of Arkansas at 2:27 of the
1st round!!

Hicks
weighed in at 254 lbs. to Savarese's 249
lbs. He brought a record of 10-1 with 10
KO's, and wasted little time coming after
Savarese.

Hicks landed
several early head shots.

"I knew he was going to come out fast, I
didn't realize how strong he was," Savarese
said after the bout."

But about 90 seconds into the round a left
hook to the body sent Hicks down.

Savarese then
loaded up with a right hand bomb and it was
over. Hicks said afterward that he enjoyed
getting a chance to fight one of his heroes.

feinting the jab, I was waiting for the big
right hand and he walked right into it,"
said Savarese, who improves to 46-6 with 38
KO's, and who told the crowd that he plans
to bring a world heavyweight title to
Houston.

Henry Hammers Franklin!

Light Heavyweight "Hard Hitting" Chris Henry of
Orange, Texas had little trouble with Jim Franklin
of Topeka, Kansas.

Henry currently holds the W.B.C. MSNBC title and he
brought a record of 17-0 with 14 KO's against
Franklin, who was 7-7. Henry opened with the jab,
Franklin answered with a left to the head, and after
a solid left from Henry Franklin took a knee. When
Franklin got up Henry launched a barrage of punches
and referee Ronnie Ralston stopped the contest at
1:35 of the 1st round.

Henry is ranked #12 by the World Boxing Council.

Junior Middleweight Chase "White Tiger"
Shields remains undefeated after a unanimous
six-round decision over Josh Smith of
Nashville, Tennessee.

Shields
landed shots from the outside throughout the
match, switching in the middle and later
rounds from the conventional to the southpaw
stance.

Shields
opened fast in round four, landing several
body shots and connecting repeatedly to the
head, but did not seem to really press for
the opportunity to knock out Smith.

Smith
occasionally fought back with countershots
and brief flurries of punches.

For
the most part Smith seemed content to simply
survive the match and go the distance.

All three
judges scored the bout 60-54 for Shields,
who improves to 23-0-1 with 12 KO's.

Assaults Atkins!!

Eugene
Hill of Dickinson, Texas barely had the
chance to break a sweat as he knocked out
Donzell Atkins of Monroe, Louisiana in just
31 seconds!!

HiAtkins
came in to throw a shot and Hill countered
with a right hand that staggered his 260-lb
opponent. Hill, who weighed in a 248 lbs,
then began to batter Atkins who fell through
the ropes, and the referee stopped the
contest. Hill improves to 4-0 with 4 KO's!

Outpoints Lockette!!
Lightweight Marcelino Osuna of
Houston remains undefeated after
taking a four-round unanimous
decision against Jerron Lockette of
San Antonio.
Osuna
fought out of the southpaw stance
and began round one with several
body shots against the taller
Lockette.
Lockette opened round two with a
couple shots to the face of Osuna,
who responsed with a straight left
that seemed to stagger Lockette. The
fighters traded left hooks near the
end of round two and Osuna came out
blasting in round three, forcing
Lockette into the ropes and landing
several shots to the body and head.
All
three judges gave every round to
Osuna, who improves to 3-0 with 1
KO. Lockette falls to 2-6-2. |

Jones
Jams Traylor!!
Heavyweight Jimmy Jones of The
Bronx, New York, won his pro debut
against Rozell Traylor of Texarkana,
Texas.
Jones
weighted in at 228 lbs to 254 for
Traylor, who began swingining wildly
in the first round. Jones landed a
right that sent Traylor down. The
fighters brawled as round one
continued, with Traylor landing some
rights to the head of Jones. But
Jones' power dominated in round two,
as he pounded Traylor into the
ropes. Traylor covered up and the
referee stopped the contest at 1:13
of the second round. Traylor
protested the stoppage and he falls
to 0-2.
