Steve "Freight Train"
Collins of Houston easily overpowered the journeyman Clinton Boldridge at the Stafford Centre on April 23rd of '09!!
Copley
Flusters Flores!
Heavyweight Mike Copley of Parsons, Tennessee
survived the initial intimidation factor of the
massive Bobby "El Jefe" Flores of Houston, and a 150
lb. weight deficit, to slug his way back downhome
with a win in his pro debut!!
Copley came in at a mere 201 lbs. to 351 for Flores.
The Tennessean possesses marginal boxing skill, but
no shortage of intestinal fortitude. He faced
down an opponent who was physically, hugely
superior.
Flores knocked Copley down twice in the first round.
See video below!!
..
But
Copley stood his ground and ripped Flores with
several body shots and looping overhand rights!
Copley survived the first round and "El Jefe" ran
out of gas in the second, the referee stopping the
contest at Flores' instructions.
Flores had to spend a couple of minutes
taking oxygen from a medical attendant at ringside.
Flores falls to 7-2 with 7 KO's.
..
Baker Breaks
"Machine"!
Craig "El Gato Negro"
Baker of Houston smacked up Calvin "The Machine"
Perkins of San Antonio.
Baker came in at
2-0 with 2 KO's. It was the pro debut for Perkins,
who seemed physically solid, but who showed himself
to be slow and awkward in the ring.
Baker peppered
his opponent with combinations until referee Gary
Simon stopped the contest at 2:31 of the 1st round!
Richard
Assaults Alarcon!!
Lightweight
Cody "El Gato Blanco" Richard of Orange,
Texas slugged out a satisfying win over
Gerardo Alarcon of Dallas.
This opening
bout was actually the most evenly matched of
the night.
Richard used
a jab and lateral movement to keep Alarcon
at bay, while Alarcon, who was making his
pro debut, moved forward and landed solid
body shots and the occasional hook to the
head of Richard.
The
20-year-old Richard has a long amateur
record in Southeast Texas, and while he
still needs to work on various skills, he
showed good heart in ripping Alarcon with
several nice combinations throughout the
four-round match.
Alarcon was
determined and showed some fundamental
capabilities, remaining aggressive
throughout the match.
All three
judges scored the bout 40-36 for Richard.
Richard is
undefeated at 1-0-1!
"Freight Train" Rumbles Over "Big Daddy"!
Boldridge seemed off balance and awkward as he
missed early with a wild right, but did manage to
land a couple of largely ineffective punches early.
Collins, who came in at a bruising 270 lbs. to 235
for Boldridge, hammered his opponent/victim with a right
hook to score an early knockdown.
Boldridge came in at
8-13-1 with 6 KO's. So it's clear Collins needs to
upgrade the quality of his competition.
See video of the rest
of the short match below!

Steve Collins
improves to 19-1 with 15 KO's!

.
Pryor Rips Rivera!
Light Heavyweight Larry "Hitman "Pryor
of Houston dismantled Gabriel "El Torito" Rivera of Harlingen!!!
Pryor smoked
Rivera with handspeed, movement and power.
..
Easily the best Pryor
has looked since his arrival in Houston a few years
back, "Hitman" showed fluid movement and effective
combination punching skills against an opponent who
appeared to be reasonably solid, coming into the
ring with a record of 7-5 with 4 knockouts.
The TKO came at 2:54
of the 1st round!
Pryor improves to 4-4
with 2 KO's!
Edwards Gouges
Greeley!
Cruiserweight Willie
"Dynamite" Edwards took a four-round unanimous
decision over Anthony Greeley!
The fight was in fact
not terribly eventful, as Edwards, coming in at 6-0
with 2 KO's, faced a far more experienced Greeley,
who brought a record of 7-29-3.
Greeley's record may
be somewhat deceptive in that he is a reasonably
skilled and elusive counterpuncher, although
he appears to lack power. Greeley did advance for a
good portion of the later rounds, while Edwards
showed movement and good defensive skills.
All three judges
scored the bout 40-36 for Edwards.
