Robbie McClimans stayed more aggressive and landed the harder shots in taking an eight-round majority decision over Maurenzo "T-Diddy" Smith on April 21st, 2007 to win the vacant Texas Cruiserweight Title!!

McClimans Topples "Tuffy"!!!

The bout was a rematch of their previous meeting in March of 2006, which Smith won by unanimous decision.

Smith, known to many of his fans as "Tuffy",  landed solid jabs in round one, while McClimans tried unsuccessfully to land a big shot.

\     McClimans landed a lead right hand and a couple of body shots in round two, while Smith continued to land from the outside. McClimans pounded the body and near the end of the round landed a left hook that caught Smith off balance, sending him staggering back a few paces.

Round three was relatively uneventful, with each fighter seeming trying to avoid a costly error.

In round five McClimans landed an occasional winging left or right hand to the head and body.  Smith closed the round with two good body shots.

But

""The whole time we were working on reacting," McClimans said after the fight. "But I couldn't hit him because he was scared, running. He was working the jab and I was trying to get inside but it was hard. He's got long arms".

McClimans continued to launch bombs from the outside in round six, landing hooks to the body and head, with Smith answering back with somewhat lighter combinations to the head and body.

The distance between the fighters closed in round seven, with each man landing several shots during the exchanges.

Round eight developed into an all-out brawl. Ro

McCMcClimans landed one big right hand in the final round which snapped Smith's head back. "That right hand drag, we've been working on it all day long, every day," said McClimans. Ro

In the end two judges scored the bout 77-75 for McClimans, while the third saw the match a draw at 76-76, giving McClimans the majority decision and the belt.

McClimans fell to his knees in an emotional celebration upon hearing the verdict.

 McClimans improves to 5-3-1 with 2 KO's. Smith falls to 6-2 with 5 KO's.

"Monday I'm going back to work again. I ain't going to stop. I'm taking a couple of days off, keep on going. Running every day, I'm going to bump it up to like seven, eight miles. I've got a lot of baby fat I've got to get rid of. I was 300 pounds."

Martinez Batters Budd!!!

H      Middleweight Guadalupe Martinez of Houston battled back from the edge of oblivion to take a bloody majority decision over Corey Budd of Cincinnati in more than two years.

Martinez pressed the action during a fast start early in round one but Budd caught him with a big right hand that staggered him. Budd then followed up with multiple head shots and it appeared as though Martinez was in danger of being knocked out early.

In an amazing display of heart and conditioning, Martinez regained composure and began landing bombs of his own. By the end of the round Budd was bleeding profusely from the nose.

"He was strong. He hit hard," Martinez said after the fight. "But I was alright. I took a couple of steps back, shook it off and I came right back forward."

Martinez, who had not fought since losing a unanimous eight-round decision to Francisco Diaz in Kansas City in September of 2004, came back in round two with a looping left uppercut to the head which hurt Budd, and Budd seemed on the close to going as well. Martinez continued to hammer Budd throughout the round and Budd fired back, leaving Martinez with a cut on his right eyelid at the end of the round, which would require stitches after the fight.

"That was the first cut of my career on the eye," said Martinez. It was something new, it was a little blur, but I was alright."

Budd landed a solid right to the head to open round three but Martinez pressed his opponent into the ropes and began blasting to the body. Budd's left eye was closing by the end of the round and he looked exhausted.

"     Martinez continued to land big rights and lefts to the head in round four, while Budd powered back with some combinations of his own. In the end, two of the three judges scored the bout 39-37 for Martinez, while the third judge scored it a draw at 38-38.

Martinez improves to 14-1 with 9 KO's, while Budd falls to 7-16 with 7 KO's. "It was hard for me to find an opponent," Martinez said. "You know first of all the (Texas Boxing) Commission was giving us a hard time, they wanted us to get tougher opponents, ones with more experience and more fights. So we had to go with this guy. He was bigger than me, he had more fights than I did, but I needed that. The fight was originally set for six rounds, and the commissioners backed it up to four rounds, so I knew I had to put a lot of pressure every single round. We gave it all we had."

Ch

The fighters would trade at a brisk pace right up to the final bell. Two of the judges scored the bout 40-34 for Valdivia, while a third scored the bout 39-35.  Thomas falls to 0-2.
