Chase "White Tiger" Shields repeatedly blasted the persistent journeyman Steve Verdin
to take an eight-round decision.
|

|
"White Tiger" Slashes "Geronimo"! |
Shields
began landing the jab early in round one.

Verdin's left eye
began to close as early as round two, although he
maintained his pursuit of the White Tiger.

Verdin, from Houma, Lousiana, kept
coming forward for the entire eight rounds, occasionally landing shots
to the body and head of Shields throughout the fight.

Shields showed good movement throughout
the match, catching Verdin with effective jabs and counterpunch
combinations as Verdin tried to bore in.

Two judges gave every round to Shields,
for scores of 80-72, while the third judge scored the bout 79-73. Verdin
falls to 8-38-2 with 1 KO.

"I sat down on some of (my punches)
but I wasn't driving through," Shields said after the match. "I didn't
want to get caught. I just wanted to make it easy. I needed the rounds.
I didn't want to leave myself open to get cut or hurt my hand. I hurt
him a few times but I didn't want to jump on him because he wasn't hurt
bad enough. He could have let a big one go. This will help me get better
and we'll move onto the next one."

Shields improves to
26-1-1 with 13 KO's!
