Lou Savarese of Houston completely overpowered journeyman Travis "Iron Man" Fulton of Iowa in pursuit of another shot at the title. Savarese is now 45-6 with 37 knockouts.

"Big" Lou Melts "Iron Man"!!!

Savarese weighed in at 261 lbs. to Fulton's 245, and he began by stalking the smaller man, before a packed house of several thousand at the Grand Plaza Ballroom.

\Fulton demonstrated some accuracy and hand speed by nailing Savarese with a couple of one-two combinations during round one.

Savarese seemed to stun Fulton with a big right hand near the end of the first.

Fulton opened round two with a combination and then a right uppercut that landed to the head, but a big shot from Savarese forced Fulton to take a knee.

The hammering would then begin in earnest, with Savarese landing two left hooks to the head, and a series of body shots, before Fulton took a knee. As Savarese continued to fire lefts and right hand bombs, Fulton would go to a knee three times in the second round.

Fulton would then take a knee twice in the third before the referee stopped the contest at 1:37 of the third round. Fulton falls to 16-15 with 14 KO's.

But

"It's exactly what I needed," Savarese, who before this night had fought once in the past three years, said after the bout. "He was real game, I hurt him a couple of time, but we just wanted to work on getting a couple of rounds, getting behind the jab and not getting hit too much. I give him a lot of credit."

The 41-year-old Savarese has said in recent weeks that he believes he may be just a couple of fights away from a title shot, with a possible upcoming match against former IBF Champion Chris Byrd.

"We'll see what happens," Said Savarese. "We've just got to keep fighting and stay busy, a la George Foreman, and hopefully something big will come along."

Renteria Takes Trejo!!

Junior Lightweight Eleazar "Pelon" Renteria of Humble, Texas remains undefeated after winning a unanimous decision over Raymond Trejo of San Marcos, Texas.

In a match that, on paper, looked as though it could be the most difficult of his pro career so far, Renteria seemed comfortable and relaxed from the outset, landing solid body shots, a lead right hand and a left hook.

Trejo came in with a record of 10-3-1 with 3 KO's, while Renteria  brought a tally of 6-0 with 5 KO's. But Renteria was clearly the more polished of the two fighters, while Trejo seemed awkward, generally just advancing in with his hands up to deflect the shots from Pelon.

Pelon was essentially picking Trejo apart in round two, dissecting his defenses. Renteria loaded up with two big right hands but Trejo remained game throughout the fight, boring in as he absorbed the punishment.

RouA 1-2 combination from Renteria snapped Trejo's head back in round four, but Trejo answered with a solid three-punch combination. Renteria ended the fight with a right hand blast to the face and all three judges scored the bout 40-36 in his favor.

Renteria said after the match he was not expecting a knockout. "I just let him touch me with his head," Renteria said. "That's bad."

Hill Rocks Rozell!

Eugene "Mean Gene" Hill remains undefeated at 3-0 with three KO's.

Hill faced Traylor Rozell of Texarkana, Texas, who was making his pro debut. Both men weighed in at 252 lbs.

Rozell showed some good hand quickness and mobility early. It looked as though it could have been an interesting matchup.

Hill landed a big right in the first that seemed to briefly stagger Rozell. In Round two Hill landed a left to the chin early, and followed up with a three-punch combination.

Rozell took a knee, and Hill hit him while he was down. The referee deducted a point. Rozell did not seem especially hurt, but after the referee deducted the point from Hill, and Hill began to move in on Rozell again, Rozell simply gave up, and began walking toward his corner, indicating to the referee that he did not want to continue.

The fight ended at 1:37 of the second round.

Henry Hammers Thompson!

H     Light Heavyweight Chris "Hard Hitting" Henry of Orange, Texas remains undefeated after blasting out a unanimous decision over Billy Thompson of Garland, Texas.

Henry brought a record of 16-0 with 14 knockouts while Thompson came in at 8-8 with 3 KO's. Henry's superiority was evident early, as he showed much more power and landed a chopping right. Henry followed that with a left hook to the body and a right to the head that stunned Thompson. Thompson answered with his own left hook to the head.

Henry continued working the body in round two. Thompson tried to counter with combinations that seemed mostly ineffective.

Henry continued to land often in round three, beginning with a left-right-left combo to the head and several overhand rights.

The battering continued through round four and into five, when a right hand uppercut from Henry staggered Thompson. Henry's power dominated through round six, although Thompson did score with a solid combination to the head near the end of the bout.

"He came in tough, man, he came out to fight," Henry said after the bout. "He stayed in there with me, he took some hard shots."

All three judges scored the bout 60-54 for Henry, who improves to 17-0 with 15 14 KO's.

Ch

Flores Flattens Awe!!

Heavyweight Bobby "El Jefe" Flores of Houston knocked out Cody Awe of Iowa in just five seconds!!

Flores weighed in a 338 lbs to Awe's 201. Awe was making his pro debut, and looked very nervous. Flores opened with a quick jab, then the trademark crunching right to the head, and it was over.

Flores improves to 3-1 with 3 KO's.

Osuna Outslugs Williams!!

Junior lightweight Marcelino Osuna of Houston hammered out a solid win in his pro debut.

Osuna faced Michael Williams of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, who brought a record of 3-3 with 3 knockouts.

The southpaw Osuna showed quicker handspeed and landed some solid rights to the body in the first and second round, but Williams continued to pursue and land some countershots to the head of Osuna.

Osuna landed a solid right hand followed by a left uppercut to the head in round three, and pounded the body in round four. Williams stayed to to toe and landed some head shots of his own. Osuna displayed good movement and defense and won the unanimous decision, with two judges giving him all four rounds and scores of 40-36, while one judge scored the bout 39-37.
