Eugene Hill had too much firepower for Clinton Boldridge of St. Joseph, Missouri on January 15th of 2009!

Hill Hammers Boldridge!

Hill, right, below, weighed in a 257 to 236 for Boldridge.

The 42-year-old Boldridge brought a record of 8-12-1 with 6 KO's.

Boldridge was coming off a six-round unanimous decision win over Joe Stofle in Saint Charles, Missouri in November.

Boldridge  connected with several jabs and other shots early on, but nothing seemed to phase Hill as he waded through the punches until he got into blasting range.

In round one Hill grazed Boldridge with a vicious overhand right that looked like it could have crippled a buffalo.

Hill stalked his prey by moving in close and then quickly exploding with huge shots to the head.

Hill began landing more of the the big shots in round two.

By this point it was clear the fight would not go the distance, as Boldridge threw ineffective punches and seemed off balance while keeping his hands low.

Hill pounded Boldridge with lefts and rights, scoring two knockdowns in the third round, until referee Sam Garza stopped the contest at 1:30 of round three.

Lopez Jolts Johnson!

Light Heavyweight Alfonso Lopez of Houston pounded out a victory over the veteran James Johnson of Shreveport, Louisiana.

The scheduled six-round match was characterized by a fair amount of shoving and holding.

"We saw a couple of his last fights and he was getting a little more rough, a little more dirty," said Lopez after the match. "We knew we were going to have to deal with it."

Lopez cornered Johnson early in round one and took a counter left hand to the side of the head, but remained dominant throughout the round.

Lopez would continue to land jabs and hooks through rounds two and three. Johnson brought a record of 23-31-3 with 13 KO's, and by the end of the third round he was just trying to survive.

Johnson did open the fourth round with a solid jab that snapped the head of Lopez back, but Lopez responded by knocking Johnson through the ropes.

Finally Lopez came out blasting early in round five and nailed Johnson with several big combination shots in the corner, until the referee stopped the contest at :21 seconds of the 5th round.

"I was trying to get rounds in, trying to box, I was working on my movement. But at the point where it started getting too physical I was taking chances of getting cut, so I pushed on the gas and I had to take him out of there.

Lopez says he is now eyeing a step up to better competition.

"I feel great. I'm ready to step up. It's all about the money so when we're ready, we'll be ready."

Alfonso "El Tigre" Lopez remains undefeated at 11-0 with 9 KO's.

 Smith, Kruger Draw!!

Heavyweight Maurenzo "T-Diddy" Smith of Houston fought to a six-round draw against Theo Kruger of Port Charlotte, Florida!

Kruger was busier throughout the match, landing punches to the body and the head of Smith.

"T-Diddy" began with an effective assault, but over time his superior speed and power were at least partially neutralized by the movement that Kruger showed in the six round bout.

Smith brought a record of 7-2-1 with 6 KO's, and the bout against Kruger would be his second consecutive draw. Smith fought to a draw against Hilario Guzman in October in Houston.

"He outweighed me by 30 pounds," Kruger said after the match. "I knew I had to work, I had to use in and out, in and out. I knew in his hometown I had to really give it to him. He caught me some kidney shots that I feel."

Smith also landed solid shots to the head and body of Kruger who brought a record of 9-7 with 3 KO's.

Kruger was coming off a six-round unanimous decision win over Martin Verdin in Florida in October.

In round three Kruger went to a knee from what Referee Gary Simon called a low blow, but which many ringside observers thought to be a legitimate body shot.

"I don't go down with body shots,"said Kruger after the match. "I'll suck it up. But you hit me in the balls, I'll go down. I promise I wouldn't lie, I wouldn't bullshit and take a rest like that, I'm not like that."

One judge scored the bout 58-56 for Smith, while another had the same score for Kruger, and the third judge saw it even, making the bout a draw.

Henry Destroys Davis!

Junior Middleweight Omar Henry of Houston mugged Justin Davis of Parsons, Tennessee.

Davis never really had a chance in this fight, as Henry walked through his defenses and pounded him at will with both hands, until Davis took a knee in a corner.

The referee stopped the contest at 1:00 of round one.

Davis falls to 1-6 with 1 KO.

Omar Henry is now 2-0 with 2 KO's.

"Choo Choo"

 Nails

Nielson!!

In the most thrilling bout of the evening, Junior Lightweight Crystal 'Choo Choo" Delgado of Houston hammered out a unanimous six-round decision over a dangerous Michele Nielson, also of Houston.

Delgado remains as gutsy as ever!

Crystal Delgado edged up in class but still took away a solid win, in a fight that should draw attention from contenders in the lighter weight classes of women's boxing. It was Delgado's first time going six rounds.

Nielson brought a record of 8-3-1 with 2 KO's.

But the 36-year-old Nielson had not fought in five years, last taking a majority decision over Janae Archuleta in November of 2003.

"We know she's in good shape," said her trainer Frank Tate before the match. "She has the mind set, she has the talent to fight so, she's just got to put it all together.

Nielson put together an accurate and disciplined attack, catching Delgado with multiple right hands and other shots as "Choo Choo" pressed forward.

But Nielson's shots never really slowed Delgado down.

"She has killer right hands," said Delgado after the match. "I was just trying not to get hit or stunned with a good one. She's a very good fighter, " said Delgado, who is just 18 years old. "I have so much respect for her. I was watching her when I was growing up."

Delgado forced Nielson into the ropes and knocked her down with a left hook in the third round. "Choo Choo" kept up the pressure and the fight stayed at a fast pace for the entire match.

The judges' scores were 59-54, 58-55 and 57-56, all for Delgado, who fell to her knees in relief upon hearing the decision!

Crystal "Choo Choo" Delgado remains undefeated at 8-0 with 1 KO.

"Topita" Batters Ballard!!!

Jose "Topita" Gutierrez of Houston  subdued Omar Ballard of Columbus, Mississippi! Ballard came in with a record of  7-14 with 2 KO's.

Gutierrez had the clear advantage from the outset, working past the jab of Ballard to land body shots and hooks to the head.

Gutierrez was coming off a six-round unanimous decision loss to Gilberto Elizondo in Houston in October. "Topita" spoke through his wife and interpreter Beatrice.

"I don't think I lost that last fight. This time I came with more energy and a lot more power because there was no way they were taking this one away from me."

Gutierrez rocked Ballard with a big left hook early in round two. At this point Ballard was close to done, but another right uppercut from Gutierrez snapped his head back.

Ballard survived into round three but another right uppercut to the head forced him to take a knee and the referee stopped the contest at :28 seconds of the third round.

"Topita" Gutierrez improves to 12-5 with 9 KO's!!

Edwards Crushes Crawford!

Heavyweight Willie "Dynamite" Edwards of Houston had little trouble dispatching Joey Crawford of Batesville, Arkansas.

Crawford was making his pro debut, and he did have moderate early success, using his long reach to land a couple of jabs to the face of Edwards.

But Edwards began overwhelming Crawford late in the first round, and continued into round two, landing looping left hands to the head and right hand shots to the body.

Crawford's punches and overall movement slowed considerably by late in the second round.

Edwards launched a furious assault early in round three, and referee Sam Garza mercifully stopped the contest at :24 seconds of the third round.

Willie "Dynamite" Edwards is 5-0 with 2 KO's!!
