NRodriguez Rips Baker!!

Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Ricco Rodriguez easily made the transition into professional boxing, with a quick knockout.

It was actually a huge mismatch. Rodriguez, a former world champion, against Brandon Baker, who was making his pro debut. Rodriguez weighed in at 285 lbs., while Baker was 194 lbs.

Baker apparently did not have much of an amateur career, because he was clearly awkward in his punches and movement inside the ring.

It was like a lamb being led to the slaughter, and it didn't last long, with Rodriguez dispatching Baker at 1:35 of the 1st round.

Henry Survives "War"!!!

Light Heavyweight Chris Henry faced his most difficult fight as a pro against Rayco "War" Saunders, but remains undefeated after winning the split decision.

HHenry's big power ruled in round one, as he ripped big shots to the body and head of Saunders. Saunders covered throughout much of the round, but finally came back with a right to the head near the bell. Henry continued to take the fight to Saunders in round two, although Saunders countershots became more frequent.

Henry continued to punch first in round three, with Saunders just walking in, gloves up, waiting for the big counter shot.  An accidental head butt opened a cut over Saunders' left eye.

Sauders' counter right hand began to land with more frequency in round four, and he began to advance on Henry. The referee warned Henry for pushing, but Henry continued to land more shots throughout the round. Henry has a tendency to stand with his left hand down near his waist though, exposing his chin, and Saunders repeatedly took advantage of the opening.

Henry took to the jab in round five, while Saunders continued to chop at the body.

The referee warned Henry for a low blow in round six, while Saunders continued to land quick inside combinations to the head. Henry came firing back with big rights of his own, and the two traded bombs for more than a minute straight.  Henry, who had knocked out all but one of his previous opponents, began to show some fatigue and frustration.

Henry continued to land the jab in round seven, while Saunders landed the solid counter shots.  A series of sharp countershots seemed to rattle Henry and the referee warned him again for a low blow.

Saunders landed three big rights early in round eight, but Henry blasted back with five unanswered shots to the body and head.  It was here that the referee eventually deducted a point from Henry for a low blow.

Henry was moving and sticking the jab in round nine, and Saunders continued to land the heavier counter shots.

Saunders opened the tenth and final round with a big counter right again, but Henry opened up with a frenzied final assault, firing off multiple lefts and rights for more than a minute. Near the end of the round it appeared as though Henry had Saunders hurt, but Saunders came back with a couple more solid counters to end the bout.

Two of the judges scored the bout 96-93 for Henry, while a third saw the match for Saunders with a score of 95-94. In the middle of the ring, Saunders was shouting, "Let's do it again! Let's do it again!"

"He was headbutting a lot," Henry said after the fight. "I had to get up under him before he could get up under me. He was real tough. He stayed in there. He fought hard. I had to push that last round. I knew it was pretty close, not too close I thought, but after that point they took away for the low blow I had to pick it up a little bit more."

Henry improves to 15-0 with 13 KO's while Saunders falls to 15-7-2 with 7 KO's.

Ch

"White Tiger" Claws "Hot Rod"!

In one of his better performances in recent months, Middleweight Chase "White Tiger" Shields had little difficulty taking out Jerry "Hot Rod" Perez.

Shields, who has been plagued by injuries and sometimes conditioning issues in the last couple of years, looked sharp and strong against Perez.

M

Shields switched from the orthodox to the southpaw stance throughout the bout, and a straight left sent Perez down in the first round.

Shields continued snapping 1-2 combinations to the head of Perez in round two, keeping Perez off balance. A four-punch combination from Shields, and then a straight left, sent Perez down again in round two, but as he would throughout the bout, Perez remained game continuing to press the action.

Shields continued landing combinations in round three, but Perez briefly took the upperhand, knocking out Shields' mouthpiece with a right hand shot to the jaw.  Perez began to pound the body and landed another right to the head before Shields eluded him.

Shields came back strong in round four, knocking Perez down again early and this time Perez remained sitting as the count reached 10. Shields remains undefeated at 21-0-1 with 12 KO's. Perez falls to 10-15-4 with 6 KO's.

Rodriguez Destroys Delgado!!

El    Lightweight Angel Rodriguez of Houston had little trouble taking care of Martin Delgado, also of Houston. The fighters had some quick and solid exchanges early, but Rodriguez's superiority soon became evident as he landed some big right hands that opened a cut under Delgado's eye. Rodriguez landed several more shots until the referee stopped the contest at 2:43 of the 1st round.

Rodriguez improves to 2-0 with 2 KO's.....while Delgado falls to 0-2.

Flores Flattens Quigley!

Bobby "El Jefe" Flores of Houston barely broke a sweat in knocking out Brandon Quigley of Davenport, Iowa in just eleven seconds of the first round!

Quigley weighted in at 310 pounds but was dwarfed by Flores, who came in at a crushing 348. A quick right to the temple stretched Quigley out flat onto the canvas. Quigley falls to 0-4 while Flores moves up to 2-1 with 2 KO's.

"Dynamite" Blasts Long!

In his pro debut, Cruiserweight Willie "Dynamite" Edwards of Houston made short work of Mark Long of Moline, Illinois. Edwards was dominant early, landing a looping left hook then a straight right hand to the head.  Edwards continued with a crunching right to the body and then an overhand right that looped from somewhere south of the border to nail Long on the button and send him to the canvas.  Early in round two a right hand from Edward sent Long down again, and the referee stopped the contest at 1:22 of the first round.  Long falls to 0-4.
