Middleweight Chase "White Tiger" Shields of Houston suffered
his professional loss after a stunning upset TKO at the
hands of Vance "Bronx Bomber" Garvey.

dominated for most of the first five and a half rounds. The
southpaw Garvey was the slower of the two fighters.

Shields
landed various jabs and combinations to the head and body.

Garvey
Garvey scored a flash knockdown in round three, although
Shields was not actually hurt, and was mainly off-balance.

But Garvey then cornered Shields and fired off several
shots.
Shields was
able to fight his way out.

Shields
continued to land more solid shots throughout the next
couple of rounds.

Garvey
occasionally clowned, as though to show he was not hurt by
Shields' punches, and Shields did a little clowning of his
own in return. Garvey did land some solid shots.

Shields
occasionally smiled a confident smile at his opponent.
Shields' corner was telling him to keep the pressure on
Garvey.

But about
halfway through the sixth and final round, Garvey caught
Shields with a big shot that wobbled him.

Garvey
then followed up with a barrage, landing several big shots
to the head of Shields.

A big right uppercut snapped Shields'
head back and referee Ronnie Ralston stopped the contest at 1:45
of the 6th round.

Shields was so dazed he thought he actually won the fight,
and shoved referee Ronnie Ralston upon learning that he
lost.

Shields then flew into a rage and launched across the ring,
hitting Garvey on the back of the head.

The situation almost turned
into a free-for-all as officials entered the ring to break
up the melee. Shields' trainer Bobby Benton tried
unsuccessfully to restrain him.

Shields
eventually had to be forcibly removed from the room by
police. He falls to 22-1-1 with 12 KO's, while Garvey improves to
7-26-5 with 2 KO's.
