Future Legends
The phrase
"Future Legends"
might appear at first to be so much hype until you consider the
history of the Houston amateur boxing scene, and the legends
already produced thus far. Few of us old enough to have seen it
will forget George Foreman's waving of an American flag after
winning the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City. Since then
Houston-area gyms have continued to produce some of the world's
finest fighters: "Termite" Watkins, Raul Marquez,
Reggie Johnson, and Eric Griffin all fought in the Houston
Golden Gloves. Recently crowned Houston-area pros include
N.A.B.F. Cruiserweight Champion Felix Cora, Jr., W.B.A. Lightweight Champion Juan Diaz
and W.B.C. Continental Americas Featherweight Champ Rocky Juarez. There are currently at
least 700 amateur boxers registered in Houston and the surrounding area,
training in 52 boxing clubs. On any given day you can walk into
one of these gyms and see greatness in development. On this page
we will chronicle the hard work and the achievement of those
young men and women who strive to fulfill their destinies, and
give you a glimpse at the making of
Future Legends!!
