John Rarden hammered Marcus Brashears to win a unanimous seven-round decision!

Rarden Rips Brashears!

Rarden began by smashing Brashears with body shots that could be heard in the cheap seats of the Convention Center.

r     Rarden established control early with the jab and with a superior body attack.

The 34-year-old Brashears entered the match with a record of 5-10-1 with 2 KO's. Notable fights in his career include a six-round split decision win over Juan "El Tigre" Herrera of Orosi, California (10-5-1) in April of 2006 and a six-round unanimous decision loss to John Molina of Covina, California (12-0, 9 KO's) in June of 2007.

Brashears kept coming forward for seven rounds and nailed  Rarden with several shots.

Brashears was generally most effective in the last 10 seconds of each round, when he would fire off a flurry of punches.

But Rarden dominated most of each round, landing more solid shots to the head and body throughout.

"We started a lot of crap at the weigh-ins with each other," Rarden said after the fight. We went out here and made it a fight and had some fun. I did everything I was supposed to do."

Henry Rarden's trainer Kenny Weldon would urge the fighter to show patience and speed throughout the match.

Officials at the scene could not explain why the bout was scheduled for the unusual number of seven rounds.  But regardless all three judges gave Rarden every round, for scores of 70-63.

John "The Lion" Rarden remains undefeated at 11-0 with 2 KO's !!

Richard, Carillo, Draw!!

In his pro debut, junior welterweight Cody "The Kid" Richard of Orange, Texas slugged it out with Gerardo "El Gatillo" Carillo of Mexico City.

The southpaw Richard started off showing good movement and landing the jab.

Carillo entered the fight with a record of 0-3. He continued to come forward and caught Richard with several right hand bombs as well as some solid lefts in round two.

Richard continued to land combinations, working the body in round three as the fighters traded multiple shots back and forth.

"A lot of his punches didn't really land solid," Richard said after the fight. "I was rolling with them a little bit".

By the fourth round the fighters continued to trade but Richard showed signs of wear as Carillo landed more of the heavier shots.

"I should have set down on my punches and put in a better effort at the end," said Richard. "I was a little bit nervous and that might have gotten to me a little bit."

One judge scored the bout 39-37 for Richard, while two others saw it even, making the result a draw.

Rivera!!!

      Light Heavyweight Alfonso Lopez of

 Corpus Christi pounded

Gabriel "El Torito" Rivera of Harlingen!

Rivera was game initially and landed a couple of solid shots. But the outcome became clear in the opening seconds when Lopez demonstrated he was physically stronger than Rivera by pushing him backward.

Rivera entered the fight with a record of 7-3 with 4 KO's. He lost by TKO to Anthony Dirrell in the second round in August of 2005. "El Torito" would continue to try to come forward but took several big shots from Lopez early.

Lopez cornered Rivera in the second round and landed several combinations, but Rivera came firing back.

By the end of the second round Lopez was hammering Rivera at will, while at the same time playing matador, making "El Torito" miss in his shots.

In round three Rivera was still trying to bull his way in but was becoming increasingly frustrated at the fact that he could mount little effective offense, and was taking big shots from Lopez from all angles.

Rivera's corner stopped the fight at 1:54 of the third round.

Lopez remains undefeated at 10-0 with 7 KO's!!

Castaneda Defeats Delgado!

.  Junior Lightweight "Iron "Alicio Castaneda of Galveston outpunched and outboxed Miguel "Angelito" Delgado of Dallas!

Castaneda used effective movement and landed the more solid shots to the head and body through four rounds.

The 29-year-old Delgado brought a record of 3-8 with three KO's. The free-swinging puncher was coming off a devastating upset 1st round knockout victory over the previously unbeaten Cruz "Li'l Tone" Valdivia in Houston on April 17th.

Delgado did land a some solid shots, including a big overhand right to the head in round two, but overall Castadeda's defense was too effective.

Castaneda landed the cleaner, more effective power punches.

One judge scored the bout 39-37, while two others saw it 40-36, all for Castaneda, giving him the unanimous decision.

"Iron" Aliceo Castaneda improves to 3-1.
