Hector Camacho won by 7th round TKO over the comically awkward Perry Ballard to take the WBE Jr. Middleweight Title

"Macho Man" Pounds "Punisher"!!

The 46-year-old Hector Camacho entered the ring wearing his usual flamboyant garb.

Camacho faced the puzzling, awkward and at times amateurish champion.

Camacho peppered Ballard with light punches throughout the match.

Ballard, from Martinsburg, West Virginia,  somehow entered the fight with a record of 20-1 with 15 KO's. Several of his wins have been over the same three or four opponents who had lopsided losing records.

Henry Ballard flung himself to the canvas after an intentional headbutt from Camacho in the second round. Ballard claimed his jaw was broken, but the bout continued.

To his credit Ballard did come forward for most of six rounds and even landed a couple of uppercuts.  But Ballard spent a good portion of the bout holding and complaining to the referee.

After a barrage of Camacho hooks and uppercuts left Ballard bleeding profusely in the 7th round, his corner threw in the towel and referee Sam Garza stopped the bout at :21 of the 7th round.

"Lion" Slays "The Dragon"!!

Light Welterweight John "The Lion" Rarden of Pasadena, Texas outslugged journeyman Derrick "The Dragon" Moon of Dallas over six rounds to take another unanimous decision.

Moon brought a record of 12-20-1 with 2 KO's. He has only been knocked out once and most of his losses have been to fighters with very good winning records. He began the fight being elusive, but during the course of the rounds he would show he had fair power as he smacked Rarden with body shots and blasts to the head.

Rarden began landing jabs and body shots early.

By round two Rarden was landing combinations from the outside.

The fighters traded shots at a brisk pace early in round three.

A body shot from "The Lion" caused Moon to take a knee.

Rarden would continue to force Moon into the ropes and hammer away with big shots to the body and head through rounds four, five and six.

But Moon kept the fight competitive, countering back with solid shots of his own in each round.

"You could tell he's had about 30 fights. He knows what he's doing in there," said Rarden after the bout. "He was right in there, he took everything I had to offer. I took a couple of good shots, nothing that hurt me or anything. He's a tough guy, he's going to be in there, he likes to press the fight a lot."

Each fighter connected with bombs in the fourth and final round.

One judge had the fight 40-36 for Jones, while another had it 40-36 for Fonseca, while the third scored it a draw at 38-38. Afterwards Fonseca was saying he wanted a rematch. Fonseca's record is now 4-2-1 with 2 KO's.

Draw!

In the best fight of the night, Christy "Coal Miner's Daugher" Martin of Orlando and Valerie "The Wolfe" Mahfood of Beaumont, Texas blasted each other toe-to-toe for eight magnificent rounds!

The epic bout started out at a fast pace and virtually never slowed. At stake was the N.A.B.F. Middleweight title.

Mahfood remained the aggressor throughout but was ripped by Martin with accurate and sharp combinations.

The 40-year-old Martin showed why she is one of the sport's pioneers, remaining in great shape for her age and displaying spectacular discipline.

Mahfood, who at the age of 34 brought a record of 19-14-3 with 9 KO's, landed big shots of her own throughout the contest. She continued to demonstrate great toughness and determination.

The fighters engaged in a seesaw battle, trading big shots, through rounds five, six and seven.

Early in the eighth and final round, Martin caught Mahfood with a right to the side of the head, which wobbled "The Wolfe".

After the bout Mahfood admitted Martin came close to scoring the knockout. "You know what, she almost did," said Mahfood. "I mean it hurt. She threw some punches that knocked the dog out of me. I just knew it was a matter of staying in the game."

As the final round continued, Martin landed some more big right hands to the face of Mahfood.

One judge scored the bout 78-74 for Martin, while two others had it at 76-76 apiece, making the contest a majority draw.

"She was a tremendous fighter," said Mahfood. "She was skilled, she knew when to hit me. She timed everything perfectly. I'm impressed. I could learn so much from her."

The title remains vacant!!

The fighters were trading shots at the closing bell.
